Child of Promise The Beloved
Physician

Luke—Greek physician and close friend of the apostle Paul—faces a life-and-death decision when "Theophilus," a prominent Roman senator, summons him to a secretive evening meeting.

. . .Some of us in the Senate believe our emperor is being rather. . .harsh concerning this religion of Paul's. . .We need an account—an objective report—about this so-called Christ you follow. Jesus of Nazareth. . .Go to the district where Jesus lived, speak to those who knew him. . .then send me a report of what He did and said.

The Message
If Luke stays in Rome to avoid putting his own life at risk, then Paul will surely die. And Luke's professed faith in the God of Israel and the Messiah will look empty.

But going to Judea to seek eyewitness accounts of Jesus' life and ministry means entering a swirling cauldron of social and religious upheaval, suspicion and death. Competing religious factions and daily warfare between Zealot insurgents and the Roman army are tearing the land apart—and no one is safe, with or without a Roman senatorial commission.

Will the chaos reigning in Judea make a successful mission impossible? In Child of Promise: The First Chapter of The Luke Reports, the writer of the third gospel faces suspense and danger as he begins to chronicle the life of Jesus!

Backstage
"Luke, the beloved physician"—as Paul hails him in the New Testament—was a well-educated, scholarly man who wrote the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles.

Little direct information about Luke is available, but we do know that he was a complex man with a rare mixture of strengths. Let's go backstage for more information about Luke, as well as details on the cast and crew of Radio Theatre's Child of Promise.
