Backstage Production
-
Over 12 hours of voice tracks were recorded for what later became 3 hours of drama
-
It took almost a month to mix all the elements of voice, music, sound effects and foley into what you hear as the finished program.
-
The wing flaps for Fledge the flying horse were recorded at the Pueblo (Colorado) Raptor Center. The most likely candidates, owls and eagles, could not be used as owls' wings make no sound (they fly by stealth), and the eagles present were one-wing amputees.
-
The sound of the rings was made from the vibration of ringing crystal goblets, pitch shifted to different octaves.
-
The boy who played Digory came in several months after the initial recording session to do some pickup tracks. Unfortunately, his voice has changed in the process and the necessary wild tracks were only usable in background effects, since he had to go into a bit of a falsetto to mimic his earlier sound.
-
In the scene toward the end where Digory buries the rings at Aslan's command, Dave's wedding and anniversary rings were used for the sound effect. After the foley recording for that bit was done, the rings could not be found. (Magic?) A panicked search for the rings ensued, and after 25 stress-filled minutes of sifting the dirt and fervently praying, the rings were finally discovered ... at the bottom of the dirt heap.
