The stars say nothing of the coming of Aslan, nor of peace, nor of joy. . . There have not been such disastrous conjunctions of the planets for five hundred years. But last night the rumour reached me that Aslan is abroad in Narnia. It cannot be! The stars never lie, but men and beasts do. From the beginning, Narnia flourished under the protection and guidance of the great Lion, Aslan. But Aslan has not been seen or heard from for many years, and some Narnians are beginning to doubt his existence. Now, the trust he inspired is put to the test. Is Aslan really who and what the citizens of Narnia believe him to be? Or are Tash, the cruel god of the Calormenes, and Aslan essentially the same? The very thought sends a flood of despair and hopelessness sweeping across the land, leaving them open to accept a false Aslan as their leader. Young King Tirian of Narnia must take action, or face revolt and invasion by the Calormenes. He is thwarted at every turn, even after he summons Eustace and Jill from the Other World for help. Now, with only a small band of faithful followers, Tirian must lead a battle against superior forces. His only hope is that the true Aslan will appear and save them from the fury of the Calormenes. The battle rages, and the enemy’s victory seems certain. Can even Aslan save them now? Will he?
